We are dedicated to preserving and restoring the theater, as well as providing first-run movies, with an occasional vintage film thrown in for special occasions, that are presented well, in a clean, safe atmosphere.  We concentrate on G, PG and PG 13 movies, with an occasional R rated film depending on public demand.  We solicit suggestions for good movies.  The theater is available with advance notice for special events, such as private parties and fund-raisers.

SCOUTMASTERS, CHURCH GROUPS, YOUTH GROUPS!

Traveling through on your way to or from? Just call and let us know when you will be here, and how many will be in your party, and the scoutmaster gets in free. Take advantage of a great place to stop for a break, and treat yourself to a movie!

WELCOME! WE'RE SAVING A SEAT FOR YOU! Minimize

If you are planning a trip through Clayton, perhaps on your way to the Philmont Scout Ranch or Glorieta Baptist Assembly, Angel Fire, Red River, Taos, Santa Fe or even into Colorado, we invite you to stop and see this historic theater. Still showing current movies, the theater was built in 1916, remodeled with a marquee added in 1935, and still retains many of the architectural details that were in the original building or added in 1935. There is a lovely velvet art-deco curtain, stretched tapestry covering the side walls for better sound, and art deco seats. Owners, Nancy and Roy Dean Leighton, have owned the theater since January 1, 1984, and have struggled to keep the theater open for Clayton young people and all residents and visitors, while trying to preserve and protect this important part of the culture and history of Clayton. They were given an award for their efforts in preserving the Luna by The New Mexico Historical Preservation Division.

LOCATION
Clayton is located where Highways 56 and 87 intersect. Many travelers go through Clayton, on their way from Texas or other parts east to Santa Fe, Taos, the ski slopes, and up into colorful Colorado. Every summer sees many Boy Scout troops going through here on their way to Philmont Scout Ranch AND many church and youth groups going through to and from Glorieta Baptist Assembly. In fact, many groups find that Clayton is an ideal place to stop for the night, and treat everyone to a movie. Philmont is just another two hours west of Clayton. Glorieta Baptist Assembly is about 3 hours west towards Santa Fe on I-25. The theater is easy to find in Clayton, just one block west of the only traffic light in town, at the intersection of the two major highways.
